Handed out no less than 6 as change at work. Here are some random reactions:
Customer: "Hey!" Me: "Do you want a dollar bill instead?" Customer: "Oh, definitely not. Thank you!"
Customer: "Whoa!" *other friend walks over and they both examine the coin* Customer2: "That's cool!"
$96,577 to go.

P. S. once completed, this thread must advance to $1,000,000 in dollar coins! according to my calculations earlier, this thread will complete sometime in 2020 for 100k. If we then go to $1,000,000 that would put completion maybe 2092. I hope to be around then.

Greetings from OZ. Love the idea. I started something similar in Australia last weekend (without even knowing of this project). A customer purchased a couple of old, paper notes from my market stall for $35, handed over $40 and I offered a 1988 $5 (Parliament House -NCLT) coin as change. He asked what it was; never seen one before. So, I told him it is a legal tender coin and said he could have a plastic, $5 note instead. He went away happy with the coin. Spend enough dollar coins and get everyone else used to them and the Government can get rid of $1 bills! Think they have had that on the agenda for a long while, without success. Jeff

The US government, my generation, and older generations are resistant to change.
