So I have a question here. I applaud the effort to promote dollar and half-dollar coinage, really, I do. I'm definitely an advocate of doing away with paper Georges (even though I do love wheresgeorge.com).
But... How does paying for anything with 20 (for instance, or, really, any number greater than 4) dollar coins promote the usage of and/or help make people want to use dollar coins? I realize by getting the coins out there at points of sale, well, we're helping to familiarize people with the coins and (perhaps more importantly) just get them moving between hands.
Not being a cashier, I don't know for certain, but I think I'd be pretty peeved if someone handed me a huge pile of Sacs, Ikes, Kennedys, or whatnot. Just the same as if they handed me 45 $1 bills.
What I'm getting at is, the one-dollar-here, two-dollar-there thing spending of these $1 coins makes sense to me because that's what the (I think) intended use is of the dollar bill/coins. I don't understand the dropping large amounts of $1 coins for a large purchase, such as a tank of gas or a cartload of groceries.
No offense intended to anyone on this project; I like it. Just trying to get a handle on it for my own edification.

I am not saying that it is right, but one is definitely better than the other. It has been a long time since I ran a POS terminal, but if memory serves me, I would much rather count out 45 golden dollars than 45 smelly, wrinkled, germ infested one dollar notes.
