Hi thanks for posting good 66 it looks to be a nice early die state to me .. 66 dies did not last long.. there looks to be another die crack form the last set of leaves on the right hand side ? .. I would also have this coin conserved which I think would enhance the details of the coin

Well my new Unrecorded 18/18 (cannot find it listed anywhere) came this morning from the USA and I have to say I like it, not to many die cracks but some interesting die polishing ? marks (brown)

Hmmm...I wonder why they would be rejected? The composition has not changed (except War Nickels) since 1866...or am I wrong?

I happened to get a Shield nickel in with some Liberty nickels I was given. I am not a coin collector and know very little on this subject. I know it is not in great condition, but am wondering if there is an variety to it or value to it. Thanks for any help you can provide. The date appears to be 1867. Like I said parts of it are vary worn.

Well acctually, they are 1mm smaller than modern day nickels. I believe the earliest modern sized Nickels are Liberty V nickels.

Thanks for posting your coins lads
the 66 is a nice coin and looks to be almost free of die cracks which is nice on that date .. the rotation is a nice addition to it

Hi sorry about that There are 3 types of Obverse die hubs used on shields from 1866-1883 A,B & C and on the 1867 only the A hub was used There was 4 types of Reverse die hubs used from 1866-1883 I,IIa,IIb and IIc on the 1867 you can only find I and IIa, I is the with rays type and the IIa is the without rays type and was the first year where the rays were removed hope that helps, please ask if there is anything you would like to know about
