1968 S Jefferson Nickel Error? - Coin Community Forum

Ibz120 New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 05/06/2012 02:21 am First off I just joined this forum, so I'm not quite sure where to post this. My apologies if it's in the wrong spot.. My girlfriend and I found this coin here and think that it has some sort of error on the edges.. take a look: The weird thing is that it's from 1968 but is in the best condition I've ever seen a nickel in. If you look close on the edge by where it says "Liberty - 1968" you can see the double ridge I mentioned earlier. It is also much thicker than an ordinary nickel.. the '68 nickel is on the left compared to a regular 2011 nickel on the right in the 2nd picture. Any ideas on what this is worth? CaptainFwiffo Pillar of the Community United States 4132 Posts	Posted 05/06/2012 03:08 am It's a proof. Proofs are specially struck coins with a mirror finish made for collectors. They're not intended for circulation but occasionally they end up there anyway. It must have been spent by somebody recently because it doesn't show many signs of circulation. Depending on its condition, it's probably worth a few bucks. Report this Post to the Staff
