Hello folks. I am the co-owner of the oh so interesting 1936 dot penny. Why is it interesting? Because of its value, obviously. Bpositive and I have been in the coin business for about 2 or 3 weeks now, and check it out... we found a 1936 dot penny. Or have we? If we were absolutely sure, we wouldn't be looking for anybody's second opinion, however, since we are new to coins, we decided to take some pictures and post them on the site to see if anyone could be of genuine help in determining the status of our coin. To the naked eye, yes, there is most definitely a dot below the date, appearing to be where it should be. Upon closer inspection with a camera, it seems even more obvious, that YES indeed, there is a dot exactly where it should be. Though I will admit, there is some wear in the area of the dot. With this said, a worn 1936 dot penny, my friends, is still a 1936 dot penny. Allow me to explain a bit about my trip to the "Coin Cabinet". Upon entering the store, it was immediately apparent that the owner was nervous and unsettled simply by my presence (along with my fathers, we went out fishing today, had a great time). When I explained to the so called coin "professional" that I may have the rare 1936 dot penny, it was clear in his initial reaction that like many of you, he was very pessimistic and had his mind made up. He looked at the coin for a few seconds, and said no, it's not it, and nervously handed the coin back. He seemed totally uninterested in the fact that he was possibly holding such a valuable coin, not to mention, he was very rude from the onset of our visit. I asked, well, how could you be so sure? He said, because the marking isn't in the right place. Now, it takes no genius to match our pictures with those of others in order to determine that, hey! The frikkin dot is in the exact right place. So, rather then squabbling with some jerk who wouldn't give me the time of day (I figured this guy probably wouldn't be too happy about someone surpassing his profit margin in an instant, considering he's been collecting for years, and considering his attitude). Soooo, getting to the point. The coin is what is is regardless of pessimism or optimism or skepticism. I'm really only interested in people who have a genuine interest in determining whether or not this is the real thing. I'm no coin expert, but seriously... look at the pics, they speak for themselves.

Forgot part of the story, so yeah, went from the Coin Cabinet (which I hope goes out of business if this is actually the real deal)to the Parlor pawn shop and buddy there was actually really optimistic after examining the coin for some time and then comparing it with pictures of other 1936 dot pennies(which were available at the shop. In any case, the pictures I've taken are not professional pictures, but they should give a better idea. Remember, a worn or scratched dot penny is still a dot penny.

If the coin isn't the real deal, no biggie, life goes on, tomorrow I'm out fishing and then its business as usual. If it is the real deal, well... ;)
