Hi, all. I was wondering if a few of you could offer a more educated guess than I can come up with as to the grade of this 1907-D Barber dime. My initial thought was maybe XF-40ish, but wanted a few more experienced thoughts...

THANKS!

Steve

It's possible I could estimate a grade.

You are, in my opinion, correct to maybe a bit low in your grading on this one. I could see low AU for it.

Much thanks, SsuperDdave...when I estimate, I try to be conservative, as I recognize my lack of ability at grading, and would rather estimate low, than high. :) Sounds like I was ballpark, but maybe a bit low, if anything.

Thank you, sir, for your take on this coin. Much appreciated.

Still learning, but does this coin appear to have been cleaned at some point and time or am I wrong on that.

From the photos, it looks like it might have had a light wipe, but nothing harsh. Not a bad coin, probably rate an XF in my book.

Looks EF-40 to me. I might add "details" to that if there is a scratch on the neck, not sure by looking at the photo.

I appreciate this info and the comments...not only am I getting an idea of the grade of the coin, but I'm learning HOW to grade a coin, too, listening to the comments you all make. I find this fascinating...

Thanks!

when it comes to Barber coins, I use http://www.barbercoins.org/index.html quite often as a reference...

Maybe it's just the lightning, but I would like to see more distinct corn kernels on the rev, as well as more visible hair under "libery" on the obverse for me to give it a XF...but definitely a VF-30

EF details, looks to have been cleaned at some point based on the bright surfaces (might also be a weakly struck AU - would have to see it in hand)
