1) A seller charging anything other than the ACTUAL cost of the postage plus a reasonable materials cost (Cannot include gas to drive to post office, or inconvenience, etc) is breaking ebay policy, and should be reported for fee avoidance. Sellers do this to keep bidding, and thus ebay fees, low, to make more off a sale, which is against ebay policy.

You might want to familiarize yourself with ebay's new policies. They have been taking their cut from the shipping charges for some time now.

Anjohl, you bring up good points. But let me testify that personally, I am unable to recover all the shipping and handling charges. When I add insurance, the cost begins at $2.60 so... toss a care mail envelop and I've crossed the $3.25 mark, easy. Printing packing slip, tape, paper, ink, etc. If I calculate the time to pack, my drive time, gas, and car depreciation this would bring the overall cost well beyond reason. I try to charge less than $4, which might be considered high by some.

So it is infuriating when ebay charges EXTRA on my own S/H charges, when I'm actually under charging.

So tell me who's greedier here, ebay or the sellers who are trying to avoid the fees? Is there a chart somewhere out there on ebay in which all different shipping cost listed? Can somebody explain to me how a seller would know exactly how much to charge?

There are programs/apps within ebay that can calculate exact shipping charge based on postal codes.

Thanks poboxw! I am just curious. I guess sellers will have to factor in the weight of a package ahead of time.

I agree with the people who have stated the coin is worth what people are willing to pay for it. What kind of idiot goes to the bank in the first place to turn his 20$ coins back into cash? All because of one bad investment, it's caused a huge headache among coin collectors for what this coin is really worth.

If you're into coin collecting to simply try to turn a buck, it's not exactly easy especially if you're not a dealer.

ebay never dictates the "reasonable shipping cost", it's up you and they don't care unless you're being really ridiculous. They actually allow you to charge "handling" on top of the shipping cost, and there's actually a field to add a markup to shipping.

It doesn't make a difference now, because:
1. They charge their fees based on the TOTAL cost including shipping
2. If the transaction goes wrong, you're obligated to refund the TOTAL cost including shipping.

It's why you see many sellers start using "free shipping" now since it's the same in the end.

Coin collector learns the difference between legal tender and spending money the hard way

What's the difference between legal tender and spending money?

A big headache for a Scarborough man who learned the hard way that banks aren't obligated to honour collector's coins at face value, even if they come from the Royal Canadian Mint.

Two months ago 32-year-old Orest Fokine took advantage of a deal on a new silver coin the mint had stamped to commemorate Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.

The coin retails for $25, but Fokine was able to buy more than 30 of them at their $20 face value.

Another man tries to get rid of 100 pcs of this coin. LOL. just wonder how can he get 100 while Mint limits 3 per customer.

I feel uneasy about this series, but I doubt I will not be able to recoup my costs since I am just collecting one set. I constantly am tempted to turn them into Maple Leafs instead though. When silver was at $27/ounce I was really itching to pull the trigger.

If you cannot use it as money, then how can they not charge taxes on the sales?
If it's only a collectible object they would charge taxes.
