It also has the correct direction of the spirals since most rotary tools, at lest all that I know of, spin in counter clockwise direction.

That's a pretty design for a commemorative. It almost makes you believe that the Royal Hawaiian Mint Company has something to do with Hawaiian numismatics. I find it troubling that the infobox for the Wikipedia article on the Hawaiian Dollar falsely attributes this "mint".

It needs to be fixed (Wikipedia) and I did fix it...Article needs more work (I did some edits). The original author completely missed the "hapawalu".

There is some overlap between the these two Wikipedia articles (and requires consolidation by Wikipedia).

Sometimes you'll see a classic coin counterstamped with "USE G.G.G" or even "USE G.G.G. & G.G.G.G.," but the 1855 Half Dollar I've chosen for my avatar has the complete product spelled out as "USE GOODWIN'S GRAND GREASE JUICE FOR THE HAIR. G.G.G."

Issued by the Royal Hawaiian Mint and has a counterstamp for First day of Issue. This gold counterstamp is unlisted by Krause Publications.
Interesting example. Thank you for sharing.

That's the first time I've seen that one, Exo. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I have most of the known denominations for the USE G.G.G., but I'm still seeking the counterstamp on a Canadian token and a Hard Times token.

Rich ... It seems that Goodwin was also responsible for the OIL OF ICE counterstamps, too. While I have six of the G.G.G. & G.G.G. counterstamps on cents, dimes and a Half Dime, I'd not before seen one like yours. Thanks for posting that. It's always good to see a new one.

Lots of luck, finding a "DUNK" c/s. Like your Goodwin piece, these are tough to locate, much less acquire. Here are my notes on Dunk, copied in caps from my database ...

"AS PER THE SAGINAW PUBLIC LIBRARY WEBSITE, "ALFRED ALLEN DUNK WAS BORN IN EAST SYRACUSE, NY IN 1846. HIS FAMILY LATER MOVED TO BINGHAMPTON. IN 1865, HE MOVED TO EAST SAGINAW AND PURCHASED A DRUG STORE OWNED BY LEANDER SIMONEAU ON THE CROUSE BLOCK. THE BLOCK WAS CONSUMED BY FIRE IN 1872, AND DUNK IMMEDIATELY RESUMED BUSINESS AT A NEARBY ADDRESS; LATER RETURNING TO THE SAME SITE, THEN KNOWN AS THE NEW HOYT BLOCK. DUNK DIED IN 1879, THE RESULT OF A GALL BLADDER AILMENT. HIS WIFE CONTINUED IN BUSINESS. IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT ANOTHER "DUNK, THE DRUGGIST" OPENED SHOP IN CANADA IN 1911. HE WAS ONE FRED DUNK FROM BUFFALO; POSSIBLY A RELATIVE TO ALFRED."

Exo, thanks for the DUNK info! Also, I've just started looking for the OIL OF ICE pieces.

I found my GOODWIN half dollar on ebay, where it was not even listed as a counterstamp. The half also has USE G.G.G. stamped on the obverse (I think we can overlook the unfortunate W scratched into the bottom).

Krause Hawaii Dollar X# MB69

http://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/...-duid-348604

Official-

A few years ago I assembled this set consisting of three related coins. The Royal Hawaiian Mint (RHM) had counterstamp a 1991 Silver eagle with dies from other coinage they produced. I purchased the gold coins first. It took me some time to locate the X# MB69.

After purchasing the gold coins I connected the dots as follows:

Official-

Based on the RHM database, below is the mintage of each coin in this assembled set:

(1) 1991 US Silver Eagle Counterstamp with 1941-1991 Pearl Harbor Gold 10mm dies - mintage 10
(2) 1990 Kalakaua Hawaii State Numismatic Association (HSNA) Gold 10mm - mintage 25
(3) 1941-1991 Pearl Harbor Gold 10mm - mintage 24

The obverse counterstamp die was used on two coins (2) and (3).

The reserve counterstamp die was used on one coin (3).

Complete information was documented in a blog.
