On the bright side its only 6.36. I agree for that little its not worth the return postage since of course if you dont buy tracking heck probably claim he never got it. Feel free to post the ebay ID so we know to stay away

I bought it from harborcoin1, he has 100 % feedback but he definitely did a switcheroo on me.

52Raymo,
I just saw the medal of Chris Colon. From Spain?
That would be a "cousin" and if not,
it stands on its own as a thing of beauty.

I just today picked up the Pony Express coin. Just waiting for the mail man now.
From the pictures it looked MS and the description said Silver.

Not trying the threadjack this, but when did PCGS change the Slab Insert Title order? The one in the third comment above (which I thought looked different) has Oregon on the top left of the insert while this one (and all of the others that I have seen) are arranged this way with the date & mint mark in the upper left corner;

Commems will probably have to answer that one, but I would say its probably been quite some time since that one has a 7 digit cert number and theyve had 8 digits for a while now. It may have been a special request type thing too

The PCGS coin shown in my OP was most likely graded at some point between about June/July 2001 and February 2002. That was the time frame during which they put the commemorative coin name in the upper left, the date below the grade and added the coin "Series" and "Number" info.

The coin from oih82w8 is a much more recently graded coin.

@dsfreeworld: Yes, I believe the medal may have been available in silver. I've seen an advertisement for such a piece in a 1930s numismatic magazine, but haven't come across a confirmed silver example in my travels. It's part of the reason I didn't mention it in my original post, I try not to provide unverified information.

The listing you've linked to doesn't give me confidence that the medal being auctioned is a confirmed silver piece. I've encountered a number of dealers who have assumed these pieces are silver based on their silver-looking appearance without really knowing. This one may be a silver piece, it may not.

I would not pay a premium for such a piece without being sure it was a true silver medal (vs. the common nickel-silver version).
