Why do these two coins look so different? one of the coins have a bold font on the date and "IN GOD WE TRUST" the other seems alot thinner and finer. Is this an error?

You've found ideal examples of the Large and Small date varieties for this year, which occurred for both P and D mints. The top coin is a Large date, while the bottom coin is a Small date.

Interestingly, all 1982-D small dates were of the zinc composition, while the large date D's were either copper or zinc.

In 1982, there were 7 different varieties.

I don't recall where or when I bought it, but I am sure B&M dealers and online dealers probably have them for sale. I doubt it was issued by the mint, but probably assembled from UNC rolls.

EDIT - Here is just one I found
