Just curious.. do the 1981 SBAs have much upside since they were only released in mint sets? I'm thinking no because the mintages are still over 3M but they are significantly lower than other years..
Just my opinion, but I would not toss back any 1981 SBA that I found roll hunting.

Tonight I found a 2007-S Slightly impaired PF Sac dollar and an unusual Martin Van Buren Dollar with a striking bronze color (maybe a planchet issue?). I still haven't found a wide rim SBA. But, I've plucked out a handful of 80-S's and 99-P's.

Nice finds!

Would love to see the MVB, probably next to a normal golden dollar for contrast.

After only a little while in circulation, the "golden" color of the dollar coins wears off into a rather ugly bronze color, so your Van Buren might have just seen some wear. Definitely post a picture though like jbuck suggested!

I agree, but the "striking bronze color" piqued my interest.

The obverse color difference is much more striking in person. The reverse has a dull pale appearance. I found an article that describes color errors including improperly annealed planchets, etc.

I think it is just toning on the obverse, but better than how they typically get. The reverse looks like it was exposed to something.

That's a good point, I must've missed the word "striking"

The reverse is interesting but it doesn't appear to be a planchet error. Possibly it was set in some solution that was only deep enough to cover the reverse, or it was in an improper holder.

Believe it or not I have pulled out several Presidential Proof dollars and about 15 SBA Wide Rims out of the Washington, DC Metro vending machines. I've also pulled some SAC's with some sort of toning.I will post pictures when I get home.

I still have Zero wide rims out of several hundred 1979-P's. I hope I'm not missing the good ones. I suppose I'll know it when I find one!

I think it is obvious when you see them side-by-side, so keep a 1979 handy for comparison.

A friend gave me 3, $25 mint rolls of small dollar coins as payment for gasoline. 2 rolls of George Washington, and 1 MVB. I admit I don't collect them, so I deposited them at my bank. Sorry if I offended any of you on this thread!
