Is This A Crusader Coin? | Philip Of Taranto Silver Denier

I have always had this labeled as a Crusader coin coin I have no idea how I came to that conclusion. Chatel tournois, inscription around / Latin cross, inscription around. Very nice! Sap Moderator Australia 16946 Posts	Posted 03/02/2013 12:40 am Well, it's a "denier tournois". This exact same design was copied by various crusader states, the difference being in the lettering. I can;t quite see enough of the lettering in these pics to decide whether it's a French or Crusader coin. philadelphian Pillar of the Community United States 3253 Posts	Posted 03/02/2013 10:59 am I believe the legend in the 2nd pic (the chateau tournois side) reads NEPANTI CIVIS, for the Lepanto mint, in Greece, which I believe makes this a Crusader billon denier tournois of Philip of Taranto.
