Composition is unknown but it feels heavy for it's size and is not soft like lead or pewter.There is a E barely visible to the left of the bee. Report this Post to the Staff

Ancientnoob Pillar of the Community United States 5155 Posts	Posted 04/18/2013 1:32 pm I see a lot of incrustation on the back but it looks likes an early "bee" drachm from Ephesus, in asia minor (modern Turkey) probably 5-4th century BC. These coins are both iconic and widely faked. The surface looks a bit porous others I am sure will further comment on authenticity. I am not 100% convinced it is real. Report this Post to the Staff

Ben Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 4208 Posts	Posted 04/18/2013 2:09 pm I own an Ionian bee like this. The design looks...well, not as enhanced as an ancient one usually looks. It also has a curious incuse square on the back that doesn't look very convincing - I think I also spy a seam. Incuse squares can look like this but I dont think I've ever seen a theta in one. Turn the coin in your hand, looking at the rim. Is there a seam? This would help vouych for its authenticity. Report this Post to the Staff

My impression when I look at it is that it looks like it was cut with a pair of shears. It may be a partial seam or some other defect. Report this Post to the Staff

The fabric and the fuzzy design makes me think its a modern tourist replica.
