I was at my local flee market looking at some coins. There was a metal detecting guy who gave me a free Indian Head cent that was completely destroyed and can not read the date.I was looking at it for a while and noticed that the date was 1868!I think its worth around 40$ according to my app. Here's the pics but there not so good.

This looks like a G details example.
If it were problem free, than it'd probably retail around 30-35$.

In the current condition, perhaps 5$.

I'm surprised that the guy couldn't identify the date. It is visible from your small pic.. But hey, you've earned a free better date .

Yeah not worth much but it was free. You could slap it on ebay, you never know how high those yahoos will bid on a better date like that. If you get enough you might be able to get a nicer one.

I have a few Indian Head cents in that condition. Since the coin is all beat up, I would grade it AG.

It certainly is a better date. I don't think you will get that much for that coin in that condition though. I would expect to get a bite if I listed it for $10 but would accept offers. I had an 1866 with issues that had XF Detail I think and sold it for $28 when it listed for $180.
