I typically ship my coins via First Class, although higher valued packages are upgraded to Priority or Express.

As for packaging, I'd suggest using cardboard safety mailers, which you can find here:

The Transline link is for dealers only (they require a tax ID for account registration).

In addition, I'm planning on testing out a bubble-wrap pouch from Uline (perfect for slabs):

Once that's all said and done, I finish the packaging off by tossing it in a bubble mailer and slapping a label on it. It's a pretty quick and easy process. I hope this helped!

Cardboard safety mailers are probably the greatest thing you could ever buy for shipping coins. I would highly recommend them for any method of shipping

What's the value?
At minimum, first class w/ delivery confirmation in a padded mailer with an added strip of bubble wrap around the flip.
But for coins with more value, I normally do the same, but just be sure it's properly insured.
Coins much over $1000 should be registered for the added security, and at some point around that $1000 mark, the shipping cost + insurance becomes cheaper than sending first class.

I ship everything USPS.

I reuse cardboard boxes and make my own containers for shipping coins.
