Hi, I had someone give me $17 in Presidential Proofs for change. They have no wear and tear which leads me to believe that they raided their coin collection for pocket change. They have no value towards my collection and I was wondering what should I do with them? Do they have a value above $1?
Er, it's not that hard to distinguish with modern American coinage... (even ignoring the whole "cameo" thing, proofs have S mint marks; okay, might be harder to find these on Presidential dollars, but still)
Well they look absolutely different from any other dollar coin. The edges are a little more ridged and it has a distinct finish(glossy for the background and 'etched' facial features. Plus a friend recognized them as proofs.
Just asking. It's his first post and you never know, we've seen people who think they are real gold before. Nice score. I'd pay $2 a piece hypothetically. I'm a sucker for Presidential dollars. especially proofs. assuming they are not circulated, if the proofs were circulated id probably only do face for them. maybe 1.25 if I liked them a lot. this is all just my opinion and what i'd pay.
