Found this while CRHing... It is a strange color very different from normal penny variations; I don't believe this is a result of toning or being submersed in liquid, etc... anyways here is a pic, I put a normal colored penny next to it for reference.

Thoughts?

It looks chemically treated in some way(dipped?)

I'm not sure, but I have found some of these too. Some of mine were even a bright gold color.

Environmental damage of some sort. Dipped or exposed to other chemicals in the last 45 years.

It's definitely not environmental damage. It is a bright gold color like bass described. I'm thinking it was intentionally done.

Chemically cleaned or etched in some fashion.

Or a tumbler. A lot of coins dug by metal detectorists are run in a tumbler with aquarium gravel to get the crud off.
