What $6.75 F/V In 90% Silver Looks Like When Melted (Usa)

Broken-Coin Pillar of the Community United States 1812 Posts	Posted 07/18/2013 1:16 pm Before anyone replies that melting silver coins is illegal, I tthought I would post a link below claiming it's legal. http://about.ag/MeltingSilverCoins.htm I wanted to try my hand at melting some 90% silver coins ($6.75 F/V) into small ingots awhile back. I used a small mini "Smith jewelers torch" and just could not reach the required temperature for a smooth pour. As I was pouring the melted silver, it would cool down way too fast in the mold resulting in a rough looking ingot. After numerous tries to achieve a smooth ingot, I called it quits and just melted a quarter on one and a quarter/dime on the other. The coins on the bars also have a rough finish as the silver reached it's melting point on the coins edges. I thought I would get some input on re-melting these two bars and melt the edges of some Morgan/Peace Dollars that have been cleaned and not worth a premium over spot... While I didn't get the results for a quality ingot, it does have a unique look, and whenever is sells, the buyer will need to purchase Silver Test Acid to verify the .900 finess ~ ☼ I used to have the acid till it spoiled over time ☼ Report this Post to the Staff
