SPP-Ottawa Moderator Canada 10464 Posts	Posted 08/01/2013 8:38 pm Acetone can cause a photochemical reaction with bright mint state bronze and copper, the average humidity in a household would provide enough water vapour to do this. I just have always enjoyed seeing the die polishing on it. Maybe many 1871's came like this......... When I received it in the 80's, the "powers that be" had said that it probably was a "Heaton Hoard" piece. Truth or Fiction........? Report this Post to the Staff
tfred Pillar of the Community Canada 627 Posts	Posted 08/02/2013 11:16 am Acetone on a nice red large cent...DONT DO IT. I did it on a nice red MS63/64ish. Took all of the lacquer off, but left a very obvious chemical rainbow all over. I think I would rather a coin say "lacquered" then "cleaned" Report this Post to the Staff
