I don't believe I have ever seen a crack pattern that would lead to this shape for a Cud. Very cool!

Don't forget that it was 1811 and:
-- the planchets were foreign-made (England) so quality control didn't exist.
-- dies were made with steel that was less durable.
-- dies were generally used until they totally failed (expensive to make in those days).
