1960 D Cent - Die Chip And/Or Struck Through Error?

CoinCbass Pillar of the Community United States 1217 Posts	Posted 10/02/2013 06:30 am Check out this coin. Looks like there is a chunk missing (die chip?) from the center of the coin below the steps. There is also an area of comparable size on the steps above and to the left that looks like it was struck through something of approximately the same size. the area on the steps does not appear to be PMD. the area in question does not appear to ever have had the horizontal lines for the steps struck through it, but instead was blotted out. This is a 1960 D penny. Thanks in advance for any insight. I must admit, I used to not think too much of errors, but as I have found some cool ones, my interest has grown. Hoping this one is something. I cannot get better pics - I tried my iphone and my camera with a telephot lens and regular lens. Have a canon rebel. I hope these work. Sudz Pillar of the Community United States 1572 Posts	Posted 10/02/2013 07:56 am The area in question looks incuse from these photos so it wouldn't be a die chip, which would be raised. Does your Canon Rebel have a Macro setting? This would allow you to get better close-up pics as it is difficult to see what you are describing. I wish I could be more helpful.
