i received this nickel as change, at a grocery store. it is in very nice condition (in my opinion), especially for a circulating coin and 73 years old. grade opinions are appreciated. I am really not as good at grading as I once thought I was. thanks.

Nice circulation find. I'd say it's been hiding in someone's piggy bank or was pulled out of a set and just spent a couple of days before you got it. Looks very high end AU (at worst) up to MS 63'ish. The early 1940's nickels, especially the P&D mints, were some of the best struck coins of the series in my opinion.

Knowing you got it out of circulation is going to cap it at AU-58 for me. Really nice example of that year.

Based on condition - but I'd need bigger and better pictures - I'd go MS-63, maybe 64 if I had bigger pictures.

MS-64 I'm saying.

Looks like someone just spent it.
