Jackson Dollar Question - Coin Community Forum

pendrak Valued Member United States 253 Posts	Posted 10/24/2013 03:27 am I found a Jackson Dollar that is not brass color. It seems to be the same silver color as other clad coins. My gram scale shows 8 grams but it could be off a bit. The scan does not show the exact color of the coin. Any ideas? Maybe someone plated it? Report this Post to the Staff

That's a very common feature on plated coins, especially ones given a quick'n'cheap plate job. They have to attach the wires for the electroplating somewhere, and when they break the wires off again, there are two small holes left behind in the plating. It's one of those Home Shopping Network silver-plated "specials", I suspect.
