It's not that I know absolutely nothing about it, it's just that I don't buy it and no way less about it than NCLT and, indeed, circulating. It's just easier for me to say what I did than try to explain my extensive or not-so-extensive knowledge on the topic. I just know a lot of people who invest - or try to - in bullion. My view is that NCLT is less for investing than bullion but, like everything, this is arguable. There are certainly examples where NCLT coins have been extremely good investments, just as there are examples to the contrary. But this is far too long of a conversation on such a trivial thing already.

And don't worry about me. I don't get offended that easily. :)

I have read all the posts on this thread and have found all to be interesting.

People collect different items for many reasons. One thing I think we can all agree on is do you buy something for a collection to go down in value or to stay at the value you bought it for or above.

I agree with most when they say the RCM has to many different coin issues. At the same time the coin collecting hobby is now more and more recognized as a global hobby. The internet has brought this to light and when considering the mintages on some coins, as a worldwide mintage it is almost non existant.

One would hope that value then would be brought to the table. Don't get me wrong! I collect because I enjoy it, but I also don't mind that there maybe some increased valuation over time either. Though this won't happen with all issues, I do truly hope for some increase across the board.

My take on it is if you have to have it because you want it and love it, buy it. Be selective on others and (not to be confused with why we collect)lets all be proud of our collections and agree that a higher valuation at the end of our collecting days is realized, and that we shouldn't rob ourselves of this way of thinking.

I too have read all the posts and find all the perspectives interesting. My anecdote from the wasteland south of you - I bought a 1971-S Eisenhower proof from the US Mint as a kid, and paid $10. 42 years later I can still get one for less than $10. Good investment it was not, but I still enjoy having it. For me, the best return on investment occurs with my children, because they get them all for free. :) Just as my grandfather did for me. Hope I'm not diverting the discussion, but no one has mentioned the generational aspect. Anybody buying RCM mostly to pass down to your kids?

I just read on another post 100 for $100. has no metal value.....no intistic value..
My own opinion is knowing coin details- my example here is 1966 canadian dime, it has silver content of ..X the price of silver today ..= say 1.75 (1.92 In Spring I think). So to me it should always hav a value of at least 1.50....They sell on the Bay for 2.10 On another note I find that after say 2 years the price of most RCM Products when they are not new and out of the news now,,, they are worth less than there issue price (But not ALL).....

@ kbbpll my son who is 14 next weekend will get all my coins barring any financial emergencies. He's pretty thrilled. In the meantime I get to be surrounded by Art & history. This has been a most active and interesting thread, to my late night confused ponderings. Sometimes I lose my way, especially in these times of economic unknown. I especially like the university students posts. It takes me back to the past 2 yrs of coin roll hunting. I still have oodles of Commemerative change around the house, it was when we had the most fun. Then I got into collecting silver coins, and listening to all the talk about prices dropping like a new car off the lot. Then is when I started to wonder & worry. After reading this thread I'm happy again and I'm enjoying my silver again. It could also be a mid life crisis thing. Like SPP indicated, most hobbies are expensive. I can't imagine spending $100 on a day golfing, but then I'm not a golfer either, at the end of the day I still have my coins. The golfer may have sore feet/back and an empty wallet. It all depends what brings you pleasure. When I was younger I spent tons on my horses. Now my horse is buried, and all I have is memories and a saddle. Plus coins and books are my only vice. Kudos to everyone for helping me find my way. I honestly thought I'd get 4 posts max!!

@pocketchange50, I agree whole heartedly!
Don't get me wrong, as I understand from an investment point of view that there are better ones out there. I just was stating that I would be nice to have a collection appreciate rather than the opposite. I will hand mine down too, and all the more reason for it to appreciate. But I also want the love of the hobby and memories created to be the main contributing factor.

I think in respect for everyones collection that the issue pricing of any particular coin should be the basis for any after the fact sales. I creates a sense of respect for each and every piece.

But then with this point in mind, maybe the RCM should start pricing items accordingly and not gouging the people that truly appreciate these fine coins and keep their sales going. Just a thought!

@kppbull Someday, when I have children, it will be nice to pass down my coins to them. As I am young and don't have children, I'm mostly focused on myself. I do enjoy buying coins as gifts for my older sister, as she is a collector as well.

Well, it depends on what's for you an investment. For me, it was a good investment. Why? Because if you would haven't bought that coin, today you would have nothing. No coin and no $10 bill neither. It's like putting money in a Piggy Bank, isn't considered an investment? Not all investments will return you a profit

In my humble opinion I am agreeing with all the different aspects from everyone on this thread! Young or old, it doesn't matter. I can agree to disagree and have the utmost respect for everyone here as we all have this great hobby in common.

@ Gilles & Louison I forgot to Extend a hearty Welcome !! I really enjoy the common sense, and perspectives both of you have brought to this forum. To Louison I feel you have a strong sense of who you are and why you collect. Such wisdom is refreshing to see in someone your age. It's too bad some other people don't show your maturity level. I look forward to further posts from both of you, Gilles & Louison your posts are refreshing.

@Gilles, pocket change 50 and coinzchange

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I'm just glad to be here.

And to Gilles, especial thanks for your kind words.

I just think collecting should be fun. If your collection appreciates, that's just an added bonus. If your collection plummets in value, at least you have nice looking coins. An investment implies cashing in that investment, at some point in time. I don't plan on ever selling any of my coins because I love them all far too much. I don't care what anyone offers me.
