A chrome-plated Hot Lips.

For those of you who don't know....

The 1888-O VAM-4 "Hot Lips" is an extraordinary DDO, the strongest in the entire Morgan series. It's a hugely popular variety, one of the ones a newcomer learns first about Morgans. They're not terrifically rare in circulated grades - it's not a financial stretch to add one to your collection in lower grade (the DDO is plain in P01, for the record) - but AFAIK there are only two known in Mint State.

This, I think, is an Uncirculated coin, the third Mint State example.

Here's the punchline: I'd seriously consider jumping on it at the asking price. It's worth well over $10k in righteous Mint State, and worth the asking price in low AU.

Why would anyone plate this? Is there any way to un-plate it?

if there was a way to remove the chrome it would likely be details graded by a TPG, wouldn't it?
