Can anyone help on this one? a Kruger 1894 penny South Africa that appears to struck in nickel - it weighs 10g (normal Kruger bronze pennies weigh about 9.4g) and is magnetic

I would go with plated. do I see some copper coming though on the rim?

No copper colour in hand - the coin looks far better than the scan - and plating would not explain the either the weight or the strong magnetic attraction

this one has me stumped

Take the coin to a bullion dealer that has a xrf machine and get it xrayed, you will know for sure.
