flippy Pillar of the Community Australia 1874 Posts	Posted 04/27/2014 9:30 pm When you say 'clipped' do you mean that part of the coin plantchet was cut off when the blanks were being stamped out. If yes they would grade it without a details grade. A coin can also be described as 'clipped' when someone has tried to clip little pieces of metal off the coin, to sell separately for its bullion value. If it is the second option than it would receive a details grade. Report this Post to the Staff

On the other hand, what about CUT fractional coins such as bits or hammered silver pennies cut to make halfpennies or farthings? Would they be considered "details" coins? What about bits with official countermarks? The coin was cut, then countermarked to make it into a "coin" of another country. Report this Post to the Staff
