Funny Looking Toning On 1997 Halves

Kenton Valued Member United States 78 Posts	Posted 06/13/2014 12:25 am I was at the bank and the teller who knows me said she had some halves that I might be interested in. I bought them, hoping for silver, but was mildly surprised when the entire roll were 1997d halves. Some of the halves have interesting 'moon' toning, as if they toned when the coins were overlapping. My guess had always been that something had been spilled on a pile of coins. Could also be toning from long-term storage in the mint bags if the bags aren't exactly coin-safe. Probably happened in the bag; it's pretty frequent with Morgans and I can see it happening with Kennedys which were produced in numbers far greater than circulation demand as well.
