I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the 3 on this coin means anything. I presume it is fairly worthless as it is very worn.

That "3" is a counterstamp. Someone stamped the coin with a punch after it left the mint, which left an incuse 3 on the coin.
I'd guess that it was done at an earlier point of its life, considering that the 3 is also very worn (parts of it almost blending in with the field).
It still retains its silver value.
