Definitely a counterfeit!

May well be of interest to a certain group who collect George III contemporary counterfeits!

Definitely non Regal (counterfeit). Contemporary? not so sure. I would bet on a more modern copy. Can you upload a weight, diameter and maybe an edge shot?

What makes it a counterfeit? Just so I can learn, my grandfather had this in his collection until a week ago when he sent me all his world coins. He has been a collector for well over 50 years. I don't have a scale but I can do diameter and the side shot.

The crude, almost cartoonish depiction of Britannia on the reverse was what struck me first.....

Looks like a crudely made modern counterfeit.

I think this is a contemporary forgery - the 1775 date was apparently the most widely counterfeited. For comparison, I am pretty sure this is a genuine 1773 halfpenny - the portrait of George III and figure of Britannia are in much higher relief. Sorry about the green blob on the obverse!

On first sight I thought it just had been tooled out of all recognition
