Medieval Pillar of the Community 3772 Posts	Posted 10/10/2014 6:05 pm This is not a coin but a charm, the top one looks like the obverse of coinage but the bottom one is typically for a charm (quite a lot of Chinese charm have a design like this. Sap Moderator Australia 16949 Posts	Posted 10/10/2014 7:45 pm Correct. More specifically, it's an "eight trigrams" charm. The Eight Trigrams are a Taoist symbol; you can see four of the eight on the current South Korean flag. The four characters on the obverse read (in Chinese) "fu cai tong bao", translating to "good luck and wealth current coin". No actual Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Vietnamese coin bore this legend, as far as I am aware. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff

The inscription on this charm actually reads zhao cai jin bao (æ‹›è²¡e€²å¯¶) which can translate as "money and treasures will be plentiful" or "attracts wealth and treasure".
