acloco Pillar of the Community United States 3540 Posts	Posted 11/30/2014 11:59 pm Picked up this 32 D Lincoln. Question about the third picture. Rims are nearly all black. Was this Lincoln "helped" back to red status? Reverse has what looks like a scratch...funny thing about this scratch, believe it may be a planchet flaw, did not scratch the lettering. edweather Pillar of the Community United States 7375 Posts	Posted 12/01/2014 12:28 am Looks ok to me. Maybe rim was exposed to the air or paper roll if coin came from a stack. Seems to me if it were 'helped,' the edge would have been helped (cleaned or polished,) too. I'm sure more experienced replies will follow. Report this Post to the Staff

scurry64 Pillar of the Community United States 900 Posts	Posted 12/01/2014 10:12 am I think it looks fine as well. The longer a coin resides in a paper roll, the darker the rims get. The obverse and reverse of the coin are normally unaffected by this "toning". You have a nice looking coin. Also, I agree there may be a planchet flaw on the reverse. It may be a delamination error. The nice people in Modern Error/Variety Forum should be able to identify the specific issue, but they will want close up pics. Good luck.
