It has taken some time, but I now have a coin from this decade in my possession. Please find below a dirham of the Abbasid Dynasty. It is dated AH 218, which corresponds almost exactly to 833 AD. It was minted in Madint Al-Salam and my tentative attribution is Album 233.6. I'd be interested in hearing others opinions.

Enjoy and then let's move back to the 820s finally!

unique coin: just what we needed

Does anyone know what this coin's verbiage translates to in English?

@mdpmedia, not unique, but rather fairly common. I have posted other Abbasid dirhams previously. As to the translation of the Arabic script, I'm still working on that, but the horizontal lines on the obv and rev and from the Quran, while the inner circle of script on the obv contains the mint and the date.

@chrsmat71, I was hoping that you could post your coin from the 820s.

While we are waiting, I'll post mine. It is another Dirham of the Abbasid Caliphate. This one was minted for al-Mamum in AH 209 (824/825 AD) in the Isfahan (Iran) mint. I have it attributed as Album 223.5. It has an interesting die break most of the way around the rim on the obv.

Hmm, looks like @chrsmat71 hasn't been on CCF for a while and so I'm going to move on without his/her post from the 820s.

Keeping in the same vein as several previous coins, please find below another Dirham of the Abbasid Caliphate. It was minted in Tehran in AH200, which corresponds to 815/816 AD. The attribution is Album A-223.4.

Starting tomorrow, we will drop down to the decade of 800-810 AD.

@chrsmat71, ok awesome. SO glad you posted that Byzantine coin to offset my ocean of Abbasids! Other than these, I'm not aware of many coins other that can be dated so precisely during this time period. Maybe Tang Dynasty in China? I'm not sure.

Anyways, I'd like to keep things moving along and so will post my next coin. You guessed it--another Abbasid Caliphate dirham. This one is dated AH 188, which corresponds to 803/804 AD. It was minted in Balkh under the authority of Abd Allah Cal Ma'mum. It is attributed as Album A-2.19.11.

Starting tomorrow, we finally reach the 8th Century and will be looking for coins minted in the decade of 790-799 AD. Maybe some other Byzantines will start popping up?

Continuing to show Hijri dated coins with another Dirham of the Abbasid Caliphate. This one was minted in Al-Mahammadiya with the date AH 180 (796/797 AD). The attribution is Album A-219.9.

Now, on to the 780s!

Another Abbasid Dirham for your inspection. This one was minted in Madinat al Salam (Baghdad) in AH 169 (785 or 786 AD). The diameter is 25 mm and the mass is 2.6 g. The attribution is Album A-217.

On to the 770s!

Thanks! I can continue moving us along for a little while longer, but would love to have others contributing too. Maybe something similar to @chrsmat71's Byzantine to break up the Abbasids?

Moving backward in time, here is another Dirham of the Abbasid Caliphate. It was also minted in Baghdad under the authority of al Mansur, but is dated a little earlier than the previous coin: AH 155 (771/772 AD). The diameter is 26 mm and the mass is 2.9 g. The attribution is Album A-213.1.

Starting tomorrow, we can go to the 760s AD.
