Quote: the first Islamic coin to ever be minted Sweet coin! Congrats on that accomplishment. As we are now firmly in the decade of the 640s, please find below my Byzantine follis minted from 643/644 AD. It was made for Emperor Constans II in Constaninople. It is attributed as Sear #1004 and Berk #652. Starting tomorrow, we are down to the decade of the 630s!

Ok very good--hopefully you won't have to wait too long for someone to post a coin from the 630s. I should be able to help us through the 620s when we get there.

Just bought a dated coin... from the 620s. No 630s right now, sorry.

@j1m, glad to hear that--I'll be excited to see your coin. After months and months of slogging through some pretty tough decades, I think that we are on the cusp of some faster progress for this thread.

I am certainly looking forwards to some ground being made... once we get into the LRB's this thread is going to fly.

I tried to explain to the guy with the overstruck 3/4 follis that they should post it in this thread (the 3/4 follis strike dated to 630/1 AD, and the other strike was likely also from the 630s), but I don't think they noticed, unfortunately.

Yep, we will get there. If nothing else, I've got my eye on one from the 630s and will pull the trigger on that at some point.

Weekly bump--any coins from the 630s AD out there?

Bump. I just missed doing this on June 30th (6/30), which would have been much more appropriate considering that we are still looking for coins minted in the decade of the 630s.

Would that Chach of Alor coin be sufficient, since he came to power in 631? The only issue is, the coin is only tentatively attributed, and Chach ruled for 4 decades.
Did Sassanian coins still have regnal years in the 630s?

Not sure about the Sassanians, but here is what @medieval had in the original rule set for this thread: Quote: or an undated coin with a minting period of not more than 10 years starting in the active decade . At least so far, I think that we have been able to move forward with coins attributable to a 10 year (or less) window.

Bump to keep this thread on the first page of ancients/medieval coins. Last week, I thought I had a line on a sweet follis of Heraclius that would have pushed us back a decade but I bid too late. The search for a coin of the 630s AD continues...
