Sap Moderator Australia 16876 Posts	Posted 03/04/2015 06:26 am It's not an actual coin, though the goddess depicted on it is the Greek goddess Athena; the name in rather crudely rendered Greek lettering appears to the right. Is there anything on the other side? If there is, then my guess would be a tourist fantasy-piece from Greece. If the other side is blank, then my guess would be a decorative medallion designed to be attached to a book or piece of furniture. philadelphian Pillar of the Community United States 3253 Posts	Posted 03/05/2015 10:01 pm Actually, it's likely a particular depiction of Athena known as Athena Parthenos, evoking the greatest ancient statue of Athena, that which was in the Parthenon. The helmet of Athena Parthenos is crested by a central sphinx, flanked by two griffins. As to the iguana, I think it more looks like a chameleon. Report this Post to the Staff
