My sister and I were given a $20 bill for us to split, but it looks like to me that it has a misprint. And it is from 1981. It was given to us in a plastic baggie. I just wonder if anyone can tell me if it is worth keeping or hold onto it. If it is worth more than face value.

Misprinted-$20-Bill-Maybe

Thank you in advance

Small portrait bills are very rare to find in circulation, but a lot of them are stashed away in collections, change jars, and in banks. With the center fold, yours won't be worth more than face value for a long time. I would certainly keep it if it holds any sentimental value, or if you and your sister don't need $20 urgently. If this is just spending money to you, then I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

And not seeing the misprint--can you point it out, maybe with a higher resolution photo of the area in question?

If You look by the first set of serial numbers, after the C is a Lightly printed Capital D beside it. But it is not there on the other side or set of serial numbers

Rainy,
What your seeing looks like a smudge. It's a spender if you ask me.

I'd personally EMS this bill. If I had any reason to save it, it would be because small-head bills are disappearing. The Feds are culling any of these notes they find regardless of condition.

Possibly a faded where's andrew stamp where only the D is still showing

Jk of coarse

I agree it's nothing special and spendable but paper is not my forte

I don't think it is possible for the BEP to print a serial number with only one letter askew.

I am keeping a lot of the small portrait notes but I don't believe the circulated notes will be worth more than face value for many decades.

Ok thank you. I just wondered. My sister spent the one where the serial numbers were bold on one side and not on the other. I was a bit upset on that one.

But thanks everyone for all the help

Interesting to see a misprint. Guess like others have said it could be used as a spender.

If anything based on the pic I would say it is a counterfeit given then center portrait background.

I would spend it as quick as you could before you get caught holding the bag.
