How do I figure it out? Who knows maybe somebody painted it - you never know these days.

Its not missing any clad layer with that weight-it looks coated with something?

I honestly don't know, should I scratch in between the reeds to see what I find?

I has a low luster look to it. If was coated they did a good job to get into all the crevices. There are no clumps of debris on it either.

that coin was found buried

here is some examples of what I found with my metal detector against normal coins, you can see how dark they get

Pretty much knew it would be PMD of some sort, never hurts to ask though. Especially sine I am still a learning novice.
