DBM Pillar of the Community Canada 9874 Posts	Posted 03/13/2016 07:13 am The wear on the leaves either side of the beaver suggest this coin is simply worn, not weakly struck. Bald Beaver is caused by weak strike, the areas affected are generally too deep in die to be subject to polishing. Bare belly and missing wood however are the result of die polishing. Scissel Pillar of the Community Canada 693 Posts	Posted 03/13/2016 8:51 pm This bald beaver could have been caused by an annealing error - the planchet was too hard to strike-up properly. Especially in what would be the higher relief area near the centre of the coin. Report this Post to the Staff
Talonbat Valued Member Canada 395 Posts	Posted 03/13/2016 9:27 pm I have quite a few of these in Mint state. I agree with DBM the leaves suggest to me that it's worn. In addition the tail should have full or almost full detail and the back of the back leg should have at least some detail and yours doesn't look like it does. It could be a bald beaver that's also been worn down a bit, luster and obverse would make it easier to tell. Report this Post to the Staff
