I collect the Haxby series not only by variety, but by die-stages.
Concerning Haxby variety 301...
Obv 1 Rx 1 XF 40 Obv 2 Rx 1 VF 20 Obv 2 Rx 2 XF 45 Obv 2 Rx 4 VF 20 Obv 3 Rx 4 XF 40 Obv 4 Rx 4 VG 08.
plus a random dozen or so of lower grade.
ps. I do now have the computer expertise to post photos. Heck, I wish my cell phone had a rotary dial.

Nice photos Fourmack. I do love to see examples of different die states, although I am only collecting by variety at present. How many thousands of 1859's would it take to have a complete set of varieties by die state? That is quite an undertaking Colonialtokens. I hope you will show us some photos of some of them. I think late states with die collapse are interesting.

Viper --very nice re punches and photo's. It is hard to get any 1859's down here as I only have 27 and half of them came from Canada via my son and a friend. Plus I dont like dealing of ebay (to risky). Doug, lets see some photo's

Well, there you go....I don't have one yet. Super photos again. Funny that Dr. Haxby calls this cent a vanilla.. No special notation of the RP in the 5 or the little bit in the 9. I would have expected at least the colour black for the 5 and the 9..

Fourmack I am curious as to why you say ebay is too risky. If you don't get what you want you can essentially always send it back. Even if a seller does not accept returns they almost always do for small items. The threat of negative feedback is too large. I have probably returned maybe 20 to 30 items off ebay (still only a small perccentage) and I have always got my money back...even from sellers who said they don't take returns. Out of perhaps a thousand purchases, I have really only had one or two really bad experiences. I love ebay as a buyer. As a seller.....not so enamoured but it really is the only game in town unless you are a true dealer.

Quote:I am curious as to why you say ebay is too risky The cost of freight to NZ is sometimes more than the coin. plus I like to see what I would get as most of the photo's are not clear enough, and yes picky, picky, picky. Plus 9 times out of 10 I don't have the money to spare (pension). And I hear you saying excuses, excuses, excuses. I guess I am stuck in a routine

Dr. Haxby's present site is not the finished product. Numerous updates have been incorporated since the initial advent, and I suspect more are pending. And at that how may new varieties remain to be discovered. I have found a couple new varieties which I suspect Dr. Haxby will include in future updates.

When Dr. Haxby gets the new varieties posted on the website, that should create a little excitement for the 1859 collectors! I am still amazed at how complete the 1859 catalog is and how few new discoveries have come along since it was published. A great testimony to Dr. Haxby's talent and diligence and 40 years of patient research.
