Henry-I-Penny---Perhaps-The-Worst-Coin-In-My-Collection

Here is what is probably the worst coin in my collection with respect to preservation. It is a penny of King Henry I 1100 to 1035. Henry was the third son of William the Conqueror. He probably arranged for "an errant arrow" that killed his brother, William II a.k.a. "Rufus."

Henry had a lot of trouble with his coinage during his reign. Many pieces were marked up with a "snick" before they left the mint. From what I've seen most all of his coins are horrible. This one, which was more than likely found with a metal detector, is no exception. But it was cheap compared to others I've seen here in the U.S. The Spink number is S-1276

Agreed on the grade - it's certainly much easier to get nice Anglo-Saxon coins than for the early Norman reigns. Its as if the moneyers had trouble doing a decent job after having their hands cut off for making underweight coins (but I thought that came later).
