The is Die Deterioration. It was very common on the Zincolns and even the shield cents show a bit of it on the reverse. No premium for these, just a common even on those dies.
I like that term a lot better. But it is so common on the cent dies, it does not make them worth a premium. I'll have to fix up a teaching aid with that term. (funny that was something I always had in the back of my mind. That the die was not firm enough to take the abuse of striking so many coins)
