Finn235 Pillar of the Community United States 6130 Posts	Posted 09/18/2016 5:40 pm The old building was about 100 years old, so they stopped production and made a new facility. They only struck circulation coins through the mid 70s (except for the SBA dollars 1979-80) and became a proof-only facility after that. As for why it took 13 years to make a building... Operations were suspended and the building was converted to storage. A coin shortage led to its reopening in the late 1960s when San Francisco also took over most of the proof minting from Philadelphia." Report this Post to the Staff
