Pertinax Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 2135 Posts	Posted 10/28/2016 06:03 am No, not a die error. I've seen it on other UK bronze coinage from 1920 to 1928, but it is scarce. It's thought to be due to the components of the bronze alloy not mixing uniformly. Freeman lists this only for 1920 and 1921 pennies but I've occasionally seen it on other dates and only once on a halfpenny and a few times on a farthing, so I suspect that the streakiness on dates and coins other than 1920 and 1921 pennies is rare. There were at least 2 collectors in 1990 who specialised in collecting these coins but I have lost touch and I don't know whether they are members of CCF. Report this Post to the Staff

While I was doing a google search I came across a webpage that said the reason for the streaking was because they ran out of metal, so they used metal from empty bullet shells. That resulted in the streaky part in the coin. I have no idea if the story is true or not? Report this Post to the Staff
