I'm surprised at how many of you have the statue of liberty set but I probably shouldn't be. If memory serves(I was 8 at the time) there was a big television marketing campaign to raise funds for the restoration of the monument. They were sad with graphic images of liberty falling apart and asked for donations and I believe part of the proceeds of the mint set went to the restoration fund. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. That said here's mine. My late uncle Rod gave it to me.
1985 was a year of change for British coinage. It was the first year without the decimal halfpenny, and the first year with the Maklouf portrait of the Queen, which replaced the Machin bust that had been used since 1968.
Coins of 1985 were very weakly-struck, especially the pound. Here's the example in my collection (put aside from circulation in 1985) alongside a typical circulated specimen!
