Lovely coin (I like the unusual coat of arms .. eagle & pillars), interesting story, and yet another new place!

A scorecard for the last three decades ...

We averaged 4.3 coins per day in the 1560s, 3.2 per day in the 1550s, and 2.4 per day in the 1540s. A trend that's not surprising, but I bet the 1530s will be kind to us and not drop much further. You guys have all been at this a lot longer and must have a feel for the trends (I expect by the 1490s it will start thinning out quite a bit?)

The leading country was Poland-Lithuania with 20 coins, then Hungary with 19, and Low Countries with 12 (but I'd bet the weight of silver was highest for the Low Countries).

Yes, the 1490s are wicked tough, but after 1500 AD, I think that each prior decade gets harder and harder.

I enjoy seeing the evolution of fashion in the monarch's portraits seen on coins of the 16th and 17th centuries. The haircuts go from that simple strait "pageboy" look we will see in a few days, to the elaborate long, curly wigs worn by Louis XIV and his contemporaries in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. And, when they are not wearing armor, we also get to see the evolution of their clothing (for example, the ruffed collars in late Elizabethan times and into the early 1600s).

Having said that, I wonder why Zygmunt Stary (Sigismund the Old) started wearing a hat under his crown? (No Polish jokes, please ).

Here is a 3 Groszy from the German Duchy of Prussia dated 1539 AD. No hat, but the hipster beard more than makes up for this oversight. It is attributed as Kopicki 3803. You can see on the rev where this coin has been bent and rebent multiple times.

Just goes to show that there's not much that's truly new ...
Indeed with not much hair on top but plenty on his chin, Albert looks ... HIPSTAH!

I do like how the portraits changed as the sovereign aged back then. Something we lack in U.S. coinage as we only honor dead Americans (who tend to not change much) on coins.
