Albert is a star of this thread indeed

Below the dateless 1538 jeton from Brussels (Dugniole 1357, van Orden 314), extremely rare (perhaps R4 in the Dutch/Belgian rarity scale), and a variant of the dated piece (R3) auctioned by Schulman bv last year; Dugniole mentions dated and non dated variants, which explains why I post this piece today

the obverse side shows Sainte Gudule, holding the lantern of light and harassed by evil who wants to steal the light; I have not seen many coins picturing Sainte Gudule. The legend explains this is a jeton: IECT x POV x LES x RECEV x DE x LA x VILE x DE x BRVCEL
the reverse shows a familiar scene from Brussels coins: Archangel Michael, slaying the same evil creature with vivid expression in the two faces; the legend states SANCTE x MICHAEL x ITERCED x PRO x NOBIS x
the intervention of the patron of the city to protect against disaster

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Fourth-Edition!-Ended-At-1461-Waiting-On-1460-C.-E.-A.-H.-864

we are seeing a piece that is quite medieval,, indicating a change of types to arrive in this thread
for the images and legends; the timid Gudule is very contrasting with the fierce Michael

This is the first in a date run of Hungarian Denars for me. This one is dated 1538 AD and, like many of the others, attributed as Huszar 935.

Lorraine 1537 Teston, Duke Antoine. The engraver seems to have had a special feeling for the letter H

Three different themes in my collection have resulted in a coin with this date, so I'll post another, this Braunschweig Annengroschen of 1537, Saurma 3802. According to Christian tradition, St. Anne was the mother of Mary, grandmother of Jesus. (This type overlaps in time with the similar Mariengroschen posted by @spence for 1550).How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Fourth-Edition!-Ended-At-1461-Waiting-On-1460-C.-E.-A.-H.-864

Yes very nice--I have not seen that style before for this letter.

Here is a my Hungarian Denar from 1537 AD. I believe that the KB indicates it was minted in Kremnitz:

Why Hungary for plentiful small silver coins in the 1500s?

Was there rapid economic growth that required coins?

Huge new silver mines?

Or is my perception just skewed by this thread that fouses on DATED coins?

ANy thoughts welcome.

@tdziemia, there must have been a ton of these Denars minted in Hungary in this time period (I actually have three dated 1536 because I bought out a hoard of Denars at one point).

For 1535, I have the same coin as @pepactonius (attributed as Kopicki 3091):
