Here is my Koertling from the German City of Goettingen dated 1490 AD. It is attributed as Levinson I 250a.

My Corvinus denar. Previous research indicated that it was 1485-90.

Not surprisingly, our output for the 1490s dropped from previous decades: 16 coins posted (compared to ~30 for the last three decades).
So did the pattern, with German principalities leading (7, or 44%), followed by Low Countries (5, 31%).

For what it's worth, the current Kunker auction had 28 early dated coins of Brabant that sold for pretty eyepopping prices yesterday, for those who weren;t following this auction. Only one coin sold below 100 eu, and few coins sold below twice the estimate (but I am not so familiar with whether Kunker tends to have low estimates). For our favorite year, 1487, three coins were auctioned, ranging in hammer price from 450 for a fairly low grade coin to 15,000 euro for this beauty: https://www.kuenker.de/en/auktionen/stueck/191577

I had some bids in, but didn;t come close except on one. I guess I will have to re-assess my prospects for increasing my early dated coins of Brabant in the near future. Market seems to be a bit crazy right now.

1489 K-P/Rosette Hungarian Denar under Mattias Corvinus;Huszar 722 var.,Unger 567 var.,Pohl 223 var. This is a variant with the Madonna and child are without glory and as far as I know is not published in the catalogues. The lines going across the face and neck of the Madonna are from the arpadian stripes on the other side.

birds

a bird on the coat of arms of Hungary - Corvus is the official name of the family of crows / ravens, very interesting !

Matthias Corvinus, "the crow". A very successful leader and king who raised a large mercenary army (the "black army") and defended a virtual European wall against the Ottoman threat that conquered neighboring regions (like Bosnia) in the South

crow or three-eyed raven?
Matthias brought together one of the largest collections of books of his time

Same experience for me: I did not get even close to some rare pieces of the mid 16th century I was interested in. Prices are rising.

Thanks for the positive comment @jbuck. I hope you will indulge me in posting my other coin minted in 1489 AD. I know that we really aren't supposed to post multiple coins from our collections without someone else getting a turn.

This is a Schilling from the German Duchy of Pommerania (Garz mint). It is attributed as Levinson I 243.

Not really a problem when we get down to these early dates where the list of participants is quite short.

great coin Spence !

I read your interesting thread about 15th century Pommerania coins with the powerful griffin symbol: striking to see the symbols mature over the decades

http://goccf.com/t/261872

is the lion on the rev coat of arms walking in the sea? the province of Overijssel, dutch republic has a similar symbol, there the lion is crossing the river IJssel
