I have a chance to buy a 6000di Whites detector that the guy says was bought in 2000. It comes with a selection of different coils and he had it refurbished a while back, so he says. He is asking 250.00 and I have no idea if this is a good buy or what I should look for. Thanks

I am thinking I would rather go with a digital models. Some say the White 6000 is heavy to lug around all day.

There are a couple 6000's on eBait right now, you could follow the auctions to get an idea for the value of that unit.
In 1977 I paid a bit over $200 for my White's Coinmaster II, big money (about $700 today) for a 15 y.o.
For heavy detectors, a harness works wonders. My Explorer is one of the heaviest machines out there, a swingy thingy makes it feather light.

If price is the main thing here , then I guess $250 for a 6000di is ok . But don't forget that machine is 17 years old . Metal detectors have come a long way since then . Something to think about, some new makes and models aren't that much more than $250 .  |

That is exactly what I was thinking, modern digital technology versus old analog. The new units are smaller and lighter and can be programmed. I can get a Garrett ace 400 for not much more than what is being asked for the White 6000. I think I will pass on the White.

I had a Whites 6000 di pro sl some years ago. Sure, it is super heavy compared to e.g. Tesoro detectors...
However, I have the feeling that in terms of depth and discrimination this was the best detector I've ever had.

There were three Garrett groundhog metal detectors that I bought for $115 and I will see how they work out. I can't beat the price and I will only be out 115 bucks if they fail to work well.
