cableguy815 The usual !Maybe you should start a topic dedicated to the ''big guys'',the 2+ thalers! Here's a 1621,Leopold V,Hall,thaler,a rare variant of this common type!

Thanks Paul. I've been after that double for a good while, so it feels pretty good to add one of these to my collection. Starting a new thread for only doubles would be fun but I'm worried it would be a VERY QUIET thread. Doubles are much harder to come by (due to rarity and price), as I'm sure you know, so it would be a pretty inactive thread. On the flip side everything in the thread would be stuff to over. Your Leopold taler, which variant is that? What's the Davenport #? The reverse is unusual indeed. @beem Quote: Is it rude if I ask how much it set you back? I didn't see the edit to your response. Collecting coins, or anything else for that matter, is not a necessity and if you engage in doing so, it implies that you have discretionary income and you can afford to spend it. For this reason I personally don't consider it rude but some do. Some just don't like to disclose because it feels like someone is counting their money. I am an accountant by trade so it comes naturally for me to count other peoples' money Besides, if you post a coin in here, I'll probably know the ballpark of what you paid for it (either I because I can look it up or because I know what the coin runs for) so for me at least, secrecy is moot. As for this coin, I'll tell you I paid a lot less than I was willing to pay for it. I'll disclose, but how about you tell me what you think is a fair price for this coin? Pardon my long winded response and for answering a question with a question.

cableguy815 You're probably right about the 2 thalers!I'll make a guess!I don't think you've paid less than 1600 usd,buyers fee included!Being a 2 thaler and in that condition it's hard to believe it came cheap!As for my little fella I'm not yet sure what dav.ref is but I guess it's a similar case to the Ferdinand II, N.D, thalers,common, but with some rare obv.designs at times.

@cableguy815,
If I had any idea, I wouldn't have asked. Honestly, a lot of coins I see posted just aren't entirely comparable to what I can find on the market, so price and value are hard to estimate. They're relative and value is essentially what someone is willing to pay. It doesn't help that the coin is way out of my league.

I posted this in another thread, but might as well post it here, too. Most recent purchase, most I have ever spent on a silver coin, at a grand even...

Post this on another thread, but seems fitting. One year type and crown size. The 4 att doesn't count because I believe crown coins is anything non copper lol

@mkman - those are some sweet Thai 2Bs. I wish you posted higher res individual pictures (front and back) so that we can appreciate them a bit more, as they deserve to be. Forgive my ignorance, my knowledge of Thai coinage is limited, but what is the difference between the middle and left coin? Both are 2B and both 1863. @beem - that is a magnificent silver rider. These are so rare in such high grade and excellent strike that in my view, even if you've paid a grand for it... you have done quite well. @Paul - I wish it was $1,600 USD premium included. I would do that deal over and over and over again with my eyes closed. Even tooled/cleaned and damaged pieces receive bids over 2 grand. Here is the only one sold by heritage. An AU58 that hammered at $4,250 in 2011 https://coins.ha.com/itm/denmark/wo...ption-071515Here is one sold by S&B in 2010. A magnificent (and undergraded) AU55 that hammered at $8,500 https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...view/3-1ZHWOIn Germany these hammer between 4000 to 6000 EUR. I managed to walk away with a hammer of 3100EUR plus 20% (about $4,400 all in) which is an excellent price in my view given the condition. I was willing to go to about 5000EUR on account of the unusually clean fields. just about all specimens I've seen a lot of wear/dings in the fields (it's a large coin so the fields are massive)like this example: Here is the auction houses image of my coin for comparison I was surprised (in a good way) when the coin arrived to see that the fields had some underlying luster and were actually very reflective, something I did not expect.

@cableguy815 lovely 2 speciedaler. I'll look and see if I have better pics of the front and reverse. I used a phone camera for the pic. The middle and the left are both 2 bahts, just in different slabs, one NGC and one ANACs, nothing different haha.

It must be an optical illusion because to me the coin in the NGC holder looks decidedly larger than in the ANAC holder. Did they vary in diameter?

@cableguy815 its an optical illusion. They are same size, the anacs holder is making it look smaller. I measured both, same diameter, size, etc haha. I too did a double take!

Cableguy here are better pics of the 2 baht. I love the obverse with the elephant and the reverse is nicely detailed! I'm really enjoying collecting thai coins!

Very nice; thanks for posting additional pics. Great piece. Luster is clearly illustrated in your images.
