1713,Austria thaler,Hall,Charles VI.I won't grade it since the 18 century thalers are usually not on my wish list and I'm basically lacking the skill to deal with this ''younger'' issues, but i'll say the coin looks better in hand.Somehow I can't take proper pictures !

nice piece Paul. I'd say it's probably in the XF range.
As for your photos, try taking a picture with a light background instead of a dark one. You'd be surprised what difference that may make.
It's been quiet here lately. I have some pieces to share just haven't had a chance to photograph and upload. Work has been kicking my rear the past few weeks.

cableguy815 I will try on a different background because the dark one does it no favor apparently! The coin seems to carry a certain degree of wear which in reality is a lot lower than the pictures show.I was sad to see this topic being so quiet but I guess most of the collectors are not into world crowns. There's too many people spending time and money on bullion, modern, unappealing or without any historical significance coins!Looking forward to see your new pieces !

@paulCT What a cool piece. The double headed eagle is holding a sword in one talon and what's in the other?

Quote: Here's one of mine (forgive the poor photography!). Not a rare piece by any means, but the surfaces are nicely mirrored and it has some great color: Looks fantastic! Lovely colour.

Very nice coin Fluffy. This is from the April Heritage sale. Strong bid but very easy to see why. Your pictures show nicely mirrored fields which makes me wonder if NGC's grade of MS64 was accurate. Feels like there should be a PL in the designation. Congrats and enjoy this beauty

Oh I definitely overpaid, auction fever and all that. But at least it's a nice piece.

This is the Cologne taler that I picked up in the Heritage auction in April. Scarce issue and a rather crude design for the mid 18th century time period (when compared to designs that the other German States were doing at the time). DAV-2176.

Cityview taler from Swiss Canton of Zurich (1722 - DAV-1785). The Swiss Cantons produced some underappreciated talers in this time period.

Quote: Oh I definitely overpaid, auction fever and all that. But at least it's a nice piece. Auction fever or not, your piece is stunning. Good coins cost good money - your strong bid was warranted. You should be proud to own such a piece of history. Coins like this are classic examples of how catalogue prices can mean absolutely nothing. What other material do you collect? Do share more pictures, don't be shy! It seems your taste in world crowns fits you perfectly in this niche group here :) so @WCG - superb stuff as always. Your cologne thaler is a tough one to find in the wild. I was hard pressed to find a better specimen. As for the Zurich thaler - great piece. I just recently acquired an identical piece from 1723 which I was going to share (and I will later). I completely agree that the cantons produced some incredible thalers in the 18th century. Basel's thalers are amongst my favorites; I just love the basilisk motifs. Have been hunting a nice Basel basilisk double thaler for a while now - I'm too picky and want a well struck one but not many of those to be had. Great stuff everyone; thank you all for sharing.

I'm interested mainly in colonial Mexican 8 reales and European thalers. A tight budget limits acquisitions to a few pieces a year so I really don't have much to post, but if I buy something interesting I'll throw it up!
